Amazon Cuts Product Titles to 75 Characters: Adjust Your Listings with Portfolio AI

3 Min Read | JUly, 2026 | BY Benjamin Weyrich
Amazon is enforcing a hard 75-character limit on product titles, with reports pointing to a rollout in the last week of July 2026.
Titles that run long today will need to be restructured into a two-part format: a short title and separate article highlights carrying the rest of the information.
Mobile now drives most Amazon shopping. In fact, mobile accounted for 54% of online sales during Prime Day 2026, compared to desktop.
On a phone screen, a 200-character title gets truncated before it says anything useful, which pushes shoppers to scan a headline that is often cut off mid-word. A 75-character short title fits cleanly on a phone screen and gives shoppers something scannable at a glance, with the rest of the product story moving into article highlights.
That being said, the new title field is brand new, and it starts empty. There is no legacy data to fall back on, so brands need to actively build a compliant short title and article highlight for every listing before the deadline.
Amazon has clear guidelines on what belongs in the short title and what belongs in the article highlights, covering elements like product name, key feature, pack count, and size.
Cutting a title at character 75 does not follow this structure. It just chops off whatever came after that point, regardless of what it was. The result rarely matches what Amazon actually wants in either field, even if it technically fits the character limit.
CATAPULT Portfolio AI now flags any listing with a title that runs long and offers two ways to adjust it.
Both paths include live character counts, restricted-symbol flagging, and a built-in do and don't formatting guide, so the title goes out clean and compliant on the first try. It respects the copy you already wrote and gets it into the shape Amazon rewards, without manual juggling across hundreds of ASINs.
The feature is live now for any brand managing a catalogue on Amazon. Adjusting this catalogue-wide no longer requires a spreadsheet and a weekend.
A side note here: The Split-Title Editor restructures your existing copy into the new format, which means a separate optimization pass is still worth planning for titles that were underperforming before this change.
Amazon's move to 75-character titles rewards brands that act early and puts pressure on anyone still running long, unstructured titles.
The fastest path to compliance is letting the Split-Title Editor restructure your existing copy correctly, without losing what already works. Waiting until after the deadline to find out what happens is not a plan.
